CONTENTS Enu Beach Need A Reliable, Trustworthy English-Speaking Guide?Click here. |
Enu Beach -- A great beach on the opposite side of the bay from Donggala, and past the harbour in Pantoloan. What's great about it? There's many trees so it's shady, the water is clean, and no one goes there during the week. That makes it harder to get to, but worth it. Bring your own food if you go during the week. You can still use the inner tubes that are located in a shed on the beach, and pay someone for them if they are around. There are a few warungs on the main road above the beach, but the food is not commendable and the coffee is the worst I have ever drunk in my life. Not much in the way of coral here...it is more of a place to spend a lazy morning. No accommodation, so best arrange transportation both ways or plan to sleep on the beach. About 40 km from Palu. You can hitch a taxi (bemo) from the Karampe area on the east side of town. Kebon Kopi -- On the mountain road which connects Palu to the trans-Sulawesi highway. A good area for butterflies, cooler temperatures, beautiful views, fresh fruit and vegetables, and a nice cup of coffee. If you want to go there you have to get a bemo from Masomba market in East Palu at 6:00 in the morning. The traffic on the mountain road is only open one direction at a time and for 6 hours each day. In the morning you can set out at 6 a.m. and return at either 12 or 6 in the afternoon. Many restaurants along the way, and supposedly at least one homestay. Loli Indah -- A recreation area about 15 kms from Palu on the road to Donggala. You can fetch a bemo from the old market in west Palu to the village of Loli and walk from there. It's one of three places near Palu with a public swimming pool. Slightly cooler than in the city and more accessible than Mantikole. The village of Loli is also home to the best kaledo near Palu. Ask around and I'm sure someone will send you to the right place. No signs! Mantikole Hot Springs -- Although a little run down and a bit dirty (avoid going on Sunday when it's too crowded), the pools are comfortable and it's a good place to spend a cool afternoon. Get a bemo heading south out of town from the Pasar Tua (Old Market). The bemo will drop you off at the entrance to the park from the main road...still about a 1 1/2 km walk after that. You pay to use the pools or if you prefer, you can walk uphill to the left of the pools to the river and small waterfalls. About 20 km from Palu. Don't forget Tanjung Karang and Lore Lindu! Both are not far from the city as well. @ |
