Poso is the second largest city in Central Sulawesi. Not as crowded or as dirty as Palu, which is good since everyone eventually ends up here. There are a few clean hotels, but you have to check around. Near the waterfront at night there are foodstalls set up. It's a nice place to relax, get something to eat or drink, and mix with the locals. The best place to eat is Rumah Makan Surabaya on the main road across from the music store. Try the fried chicken. There are two nice beaches near Poso, although both are crowded on Sundays. Going 5 km west from town you will find the smaller of the two. Not a bad place and easily reachable by bemo. 25 km east of town, on the road to Ampana, is a much more beautiful place to spend the day called Matako Beach. Although both places are devoid of coral, they are quite clean. Near Matako Beach there is a waterfalls off the main road almost directly across from the entrance to the beach. You may have to ask around, but it is worth the detour. | |||
