The main town of the Napu Valley is Wuasa, located 104 km southeast of Palu. You will find one homestay and a decent restaurant or two there. Wuasa is the North Lore subdistrict (kecamatan) capital. There are 13 villages in the Napu Valley. Six villages are in the Besoa Valley 30 km south of Wuasa and one more (Sedoa) in the Sedoa Valley 9 km northwest of Wuasa. The Napu Valley is one of two places in Indonesia plagued by schistosomiasis, a blood fluke disease. The fluke breeds in humans and other animals, but must spend part of its life in a small snail found in undisturbed swampy areas.
Several organizations are aiding the government's efforts to wipe out this debilitating disease and promote development of the region, including the World Health Organization, the Asian Development Bank, CARE, The Nature Conservancy and the Mennonite Central Committee. The latter three organizations are expecially concerned in preserving the Lore Lindu National Park, which borders on all three valleys of the subdistrict.
Sedoa is the first village you come to, 95 km from Palu. Another 7 km brings you to a fork in the road at the village of Watumaeta, which means "Black Rock". If you go to the right 2 km, you come to Wuasa. Beyond that are the villages of Kaduwa, Dodolo and Wanga. Wanga still has a couple megaliths, moved to someone's yard for safe keeping. Beyond that to the south is the Wanga Transmigration site. South of there are Watutau, Betue, Talabosa and Katu. Then you cross into the Besoa Valley and the villages of Rompo, Torire, Bariri, Hanggira, Lempe and Doda.
If you go to the left at the fork in Watumaeta, you come first to Alitupu, 6 km to the east. Next comes the twin villages of Winowanga and Maholo. Tamadue and its transmigration site are 4 km off the main road from Maholo. About 3 km southeast of Maholo on the main road you come to the 8,000 hectare tea and coffee plantation known as Hasfarm. About 17 km south east of Maholo the road begins a steep incline on its way to Sangginora and Kasiguncu, where it meets the Trans Sulawesi Highway 13 km west of Poso. Going from Palu to Poso via the Napu Valley is now possible by ordinary transport, a 220 km journey taking about 7 hours.
